Children First West Berkshire

The charity is established for the benefit of children in care of foster families and for young adults who have been in the care of West Berkshire. Our 1st project has been the setting up of a house for 4 young people -3 care leavers and a role model tenant. We furnish and maintain the property and offer ongoing support to the residents. We aim to provide them with independence skills – cooking, budgeting and more - with emotional and psychological support to enable them to achieve their potential. We support volunteers in their contact with the young people. Our 2nd project is just beginning – enabling foster families unable to afford a holiday to get away. Social Services fund a foster child but not the foster carers or their own children and the emotional and physical demands of being a carer makes a holiday important.

City of God Christian Centre

The Church was established in 2007 and was initially run from the Station Hotel Newcastle by Pastor's Bright and Anthony. The church quickly established itself in the community and has had regular events within the City such as the City Changers Conference, music outreaches to schools, Newcastle and neighbouring communities. Others include excursion trips, healthy living etc. The Church is not just a place of worship. It is a place, often a landmark that acts as a focal point within the community. One of its aims is to draw the community together, strengthens its sense of continuity with the past, aids it in dealing with problems of the present and helps it to shape a better future. The Church uses all the resources of its people to try and achieve its aims to all walks of life whatever their circumstances. The Church aims to be part of the community with staff being based in both of the areas. We aim to reach out to those affected by poverty, encourage and offer guidance.
