Discover the freedom and ease of rail travel with Trainline, Europe’s leading train and coach app. Trainline does all the searching for you, making it easy and streamlined to find the train journeys you want at the prices you want.
From the Trainline website or app, you can track live departure times and book tickets across hundreds of destinations within the UK and Europe. With their SplitSave option, you know you’re getting the best price when you buy Trainline tickets.
With the Trainline app, you’ve got everything in one place. Search and plan your journey, manage your bookings, save payment methods, and store your railcard. This means you’ve got it all in your pocket for paperless travel.
The Trainline app also saves your favourite journeys, so you can go back and re-book in a few taps. You’ll also be informed about any delays, disruptions, changes, or cancellations to upcoming journeys so there are no surprises.
Did you know you can also buy a digital railcard through the app? Railcards mean you can save up to a third on all train travel, so it’s well worth the investment. Buying a Trainline railcard means you often earn cashback from us at a boosted rate, so you can enjoy savings on top of savings.
There are plenty of cashback offers on non-railcard train tickets at Trainline, too. Whether you’re a regular commuter saving with Season tickets, an inter-railer travelling through Europe, or an organised planner finding advance ticket savings, grab money back on it all.
How to save money on Trainline
Our favourite way of saving money almost anywhere is via cashback, although we admit we may be a little biased. Cashback works like commission, so when you make an extra click from our site, you get paid for being referred. Your post-purchase discount means you make a little bit of money back even on cheap train tickets.
Alongside cashback, there are lots of other money-saving tips, too. The SplitSave feature is available on both the website and the app, so you don’t have to go searching on other split ticket websites. SplitSave compares multiple routes and journeys, so if it’s cheaper to split a ticket into A>B>C rather than just A>C, they’ll incorporate those savings for you. You’ll even see a little summary of how much this saves you.
If you qualify for a Railcard, you can get huge deals and discounts on rail travel. Not sure what type of railcard you can get? Just answer a few basic questions and they'll let you know which ones you qualify for. Railcard discounts usually save you around a third on tickets, so you could make your money back within one or two journeys.
There are plenty of other ways to save, especially if you’re flexible on when you can travel. You’ll find low prices for super off-peak and off-peak travel times, which are less popular times to travel. This is usually outside of morning and evening commuting times and weekends. You don’t have to go searching for these – the Trainline app will highlight this through your booking process.
Can’t find prices you like just yet? Search for your journey and set a ticket alert so you’re notified the next time the price drops. If you’re an early bird and tickets aren’t available yet, you can also set up an alert so you know as soon as they are. Booking tickets in advance can often save you a lot, plus you’ll have more seat choices for a comfy journey.
Get a discount with season ticket options. Flexi Seasons offer 8 Day Passes to be used within four weeks which work out cheaper than Anytime Day Returns. If you travel three or more times a week, you can buy weekly, monthly, and annual Seasons to cut costs and admin.
You don’t always have to book your trip in advance to save money; Trainline UK offer no booking fee for same-day journeys. So even if you’re travelling last minute, you can save some pennies.
All of these helpful saving tips work together with our cashback offers, so you can stack your savings and travel for less.
Trainline Europe
Why save only on UK routes? You can save big on cheap train tickets across Europe, from Paris to Amsterdam.
If there’s one thing we love about Europe, it’s how well-connected everything is by train. The tricky part is that each country has its own separate rail company, and with a dozen languages thrown in, things can get confusing.
Navigate European trains with ease, whether you’re going from Barcelona to Madrid or London to Paris. And with the app, it’s all right there in your pocket, meaning one less travel document while you sightsee.
For multi-stop journeys, an Interrail Pass gives you flexibility and fair prices. Choose between the One Country Pass for unlimited travel in one country or Global Pass and enjoy unlimited train travel in 33 countries across Europe.
Coach & bus travel
Did you know that you can also find cheap bus and coach tickets from the Trainline website? You don’t even have to do a separate search; if there’s a bus route for your journey, it’ll show up in your results.
If you’re not able to book in advance, coach and bus tickets can be a viable alternative to cut costs. Sometimes, you might find a journey by coach is more direct or faster than train, depending on what your route looks like.
You'll discover bus and coach tickets from dozens of reputable companies, including National Express and Flixbus. You can even buy bus travel within Europe, with companies like OUIBUS, Eurolines, and Lufthansa Express.
