Julian Richer, the founder and managing director of Richer Sounds, began buying and selling Hi-Fi separates when he was 14 and still at school.

In 1978, at the age of 19, he opened his first shop — on London Bridge Walk — thanks to the help of the late Vic Odden, who was a photography retailer. In 2019, Julian handed control of his business over to an employee-owned trust, meaning Richer Sounds is now run, and majority owned, by the people who work for the company.

While the brand may have started out in budget Hi-Fi, they have since gained a reputation for offering TVs, home cinema systems and premium audio. They now trade via 52 stores nationwide, as well as the Richer Sounds UK website.
