Halfords run the Re-cycle scheme, which takes unwanted and unused bikes from the UK and gives them to people in Africa.
There are probably millions of bikes collecting dust in sheds and garages in this country, which could become the only means of transport for people in a less fortunate situation to get to work or school. Bikes can be too expensive for the majority of people in the poorest parts of Africa, while the skills needed to maintain them might not exist.
The Re-cycle scheme not only sends unwanted bikes over, but also teaches local people how to look after and repair them. Throughout the year, Halfords hold national trade-in events, which give you the chance to donate unwanted bikes at any of their stores.
