Top 5 Tech for Christmas

Forget the socks and leave Billy the Bass on the shelf; if you’re struggling for gift inspiration this Christmas, time to take a look at our pick of five top tech products.

Which? has been testing products for more than fifty years. Each year we test thousands of products – everything from mobile phones and tablets to ink cartridges and broadband providers.

Below are some of our favourite products from recent months. To find out which products performed best in our comprehensive lab tests sign up to a Which? trial and get £1 cashback!

Tesco Hudl

Tesco Hudl

At £119 this is one of the cheapest tablets on the market but there’s more here to impress than a pretty price. The 1.5Ghz quad-core processor has enough engine to power the latest apps and scroll smoothly through your favourite websites. And while the 1,440x900 screen isn’t the best on the market it’s bright, crisp and the latest films should look sharp. It comes with access to the full Google Play store so you can get your hands on everything from the BBC iPlayer to Angry Birds.

 Kobo Glo

Kobo Glo

For those who can’t put the latest thriller down - even when the lights go out. The built in backlight on the Glo illuminates the page so you can read in the dark while adjustable brightness means you can make sure you see the words without keeping everyone else awake. Unlike the Kindle, which locks you into the Amazon store, you don’t have to use the Kobo store. So, if you want to shop around at other ebook stores for a cheaper price, you can.

Sennheiser PX 100-II

Sennheiser Earphones

An absolute bargain pair of headphones that will give you top class sound at less than half the price of many rivals. Unlike other bulky over the ear headphones the PX 100-II has an innovative frame that can be easily folded flat into a handbag or pocket – making it an ideal gift for relatives on the go. They weigh in at just 74g and while the space grey design won’t grace the catwalks of Paris they’re smart enough to take on the bus.

Toshiba 32D1333B TV&DVD combi

Toshiba DVD TV Combi

While a TV and DVD combi may not be the most exciting thing to find in your stocking on Christmas morning, these televisions with a DVD player built in are still popular for kitchens, bedrooms and anywhere else you might want to deploy a second TV. It has a USB port so you can view photos on the big screen or play back films. It’s only HD-ready which means you’ll need to shell out for a set top box or PVR to get HD quality pictures.

Sky Now TV Box

Sky Now TV Box

If Christmas TV is getting you down and you just can’t stomach another repeat of Last of the Summer Wine, consider bagging yourself a Now TV box. Slightly bigger than a beer mat and almost as cheap at £9.99, this streaming device from Sky not only offers access to free catch up TV like the BBC iPlayer and Demand 5 but lets you switch on to Sky TV and Sky Sports on a pay as you go basis. Once you have the box you can get a Sky movies month pass for £8.99 or watch the big game with a twenty four hour pass for Sky Sports priced at £9.99.
