Here's what we found:
While there was no Marks and Spencer Black Friday sale as such last year, they were still offering massive discounts and flash sales on everything from furniture to menās shirts. While not advertised as an M&S Black Friday sale, you would have found hundreds of items with their prices slashed. Deals included a third off individual bottles of wine and 15% off selected wine cases. You could have bought all your prosecco for Christmas, with a case of six Conte Priuli ORO on sale for Ā£67.50 instead of Ā£90.
There were also great deals to be had on furniture, cookware and fragrance. Of the furniture range, bedroom pieces were the most heavily discounted, including the sleek Arlo collection. The Arlo natural double wardrobe was on sale for £279.30 instead of £399, while if you were looking for a new sofa, the Nantucket extra small corner had 40% off and was being sold for £1,019.40. There was also up to 50% off fragrance, whether you were buying for yourself or looking for the ideal Christmas present.
Verveine Citron eau de parfum 50ml was down from Ā£15 to Ā£7.50, while if it was make-up you were after, the Autograph Ultimate Make-Up Gift, which contained Ā£70 worth of products, was reduced from Ā£30 to Ā£15. Their website was still displaying various special offers and furniture deals on Cyber Monday and if you had planned on spending Ā£35 or more, you could have picked up their Christmas beauty advent calendar for Ā£35. It was filled with products worth and eye-watering Ā£250 from top brands such as LāOccitane, Ren and Pixi.
You could have hosted the Christmas dinner party of the century thanks to the Marks and Spencer Christmas food offers available last year. Although they didn't host an official sale, there were certainly some treasures in their delectable Christmas range. You would have found a boneless Oakham turkey breast, which came with pork, sage and onion stuffing, available for Ā£25. Their luxurious topside of beef was equally as popular and priced at Ā£34. The M&S Christmas food range didnāt stop there, with their dessert selections being the talk of the town.
Customers could have picked up chocolate pinecone desserts, which came with a melt in the middle centre, for Ā£13. Their divine Belgian chocolate cherry desserts, meanwhile, which featured a crisp holly design, were priced at Ā£20 and served 10 people. Customers would have also found award-winning food. Their prosecco won the Good Housekeeping Tried and Tested award for best prosecco under Ā£15, and their outstanding turkey won the BBC Good Food Christmas Taste award in 2017. This year, donāt just host Christmas, host an M&S Christmas. Better yet, earn free cashback on all your Christmas shopping with us.
If you're wondering when does the M&S winter sale start, last year saw discounts available from Christmas Eve. You could have treated yourself to everything they had to offer for less in their spectacular winter event. They offered up to 50% off almost everything in the M&S winter sale last year, with so many discounts available to take advantage of on all the bestselling womenswear, menswear, childrenswear and even furniture. We particularly loved the double jigsaw waffle bedding set, which was available for just Ā£30 rather than Ā£60. If you were hoping to find a Marks and Spencer winter coats sale and needed something for your little one, we thought the boys' hooded duffle coat would have made a cute little addition to their wardrobe ā especially for the price of Ā£22 rather than Ā£36.
The Marks and Spencer winter sale also offered a fabulous deal on their wine range, giving shoppers up to a third off selected bottles. You could have got a case of six Fleur de Mondelys wines for only Ā£29.33 ā a delectable deal we just couldnāt resist. On top of these stunning offers, Marks and Spencer also had a 20% off deal on their Egyptian cotton towels and bedding. This wasnāt just a winter sale, this was the Marks and Spencer winter sale. If you find amazing deals this year, you can make even more savings by earning cashback with us.
Marks & Spencer Features
Michael Marks opened his first Penny Bazaar in Leeds in 1884 with the slogan: "Don't ask the price, it's a penny.".It was a simple idea which was to pay off, although the company we know today didn't really take shape until Marks went into partnership with Tom Spencer in 1894.
By 1900, Marks & Spencer had expanded to include 36 Penny Bazaars and 12 high street stores. The first 20 years of the new century saw the company buy up a number of their competitors and become a public company, while the original founders both died, with Simon Marks eventually regaining control of the company.
By 1915, there were 145 Marks & Spencer stores, with the penny pricing continuing until the First World War. Following the end of the war, the company began selling more essentials, including underwear. They offered goods up to five shillings and concentrated on food and clothing, while as more houses were built, they began selling household goods.
The outbreak of the Second World War brought many challenges, while as rationing didn't apply to restaurants, they had created 82 in-store cafe bars by 1942. The 1950s saw Marks & Spencer experiment with new technologies and fabrics, and in 1957, they improved sizing for ready to wear clothes.
By the end of the 1960s, Marks & Spencer were thinking of safe ways to sell dairy products and meats, including chilled, rather than frozen, meats. Frozen food was introduced in 1972, while convenience food was being offered in 100 stores by the following year.
In 1973, they became the first major retailer to introduce sell-by dates, while Indian and Chinese ready meals were trialled a year later. From 1990-2010, new, more exciting clothing lines like Per Una and Autograph appeared. The company now has more than 790 stores in the UK and over 450 more worldwide, while they are still the market leaders in womenswear, lingerie and menswear.

Marks and Spencer started life as a Penny Bazaar at Kirkgate Market in Leeds in 1884, which was established by Michael Marks. When Marks acquired a permanent stall in Leedsā covered market in 1894, he invited Thomas Spencer to become his partner. Marks moved to Birkenhead open market in 1901, where he amalgamated with Spencer. After leaving there in 1923, they opened market stalls in many locations around the North West of England.
