Reach Charity

Each year, babies are born in the UK missing part of one or both arms and hands. Added to these are a small number of children who lose limbs or parts of limbs due to traumatic incidents or necessary surgery. For many of the families of these children it is the first time that they will have come across such a disability. Reach aims to provide these families with the opportunity to get together, share experiences and information about what options they have and where to go for advice regarding treatment and most importantly, to help them realise that they are not alone.

Roots Nursery School

Roots Nursery School was founded on 8th April 2002, and is situated in the village of Juffureh, 30km from Banjul, the capital of Gambia. Juffureh was made famous by Alex Haley with his bestseller and mini series in the 1970's called 'Roots'. Alex traced his family history back to Juffureh and a slave named Kunta Kinte. The school's headmaster, Lamin Conteh is the 9th generation nephew of Kunta Kinte. Therefore with this connection the school was appropriately named. The school is in need of further development and enhancements to support the teaching of the 110 pupils currently attending. This will require significant levels of fundraising

RSPCA -Canterbury District Branch

We work with the National organisation and its Inspectors but are an independent charity and entirely self funding. The only finances available to us come from local supporters. Apart from shop managers, everyone else involved with the branch gives their time and expertise unpaid as a volunteer. Even the managers work a percentage of their week as volunteers. We have two main objectives: ¦Providing care and a place of safety for unwanted, abused or injured animals. ¦Raising the funds to be able to carry out this work. Currently we are able to take in and rehome cats although we have now outgrown the present space. We also offer a first stop facility to injured or sick wildlife. A shortage of suitable accommodation means that rescued dogs have to be sent outside our area.
