Five top tips to transform your small garden

gardening

Do you have a small garden but don’t know how to make the most of it? As Bank Holiday approaches, we’ve put together a guide to help you transform your small space into an outdoor haven.

Being clever with the space you have is key to making a small garden work. From raising your flower boxes to tricking the eye with furniture, you can get the perfect small garden with our five top tips:

1. Create clean lines

From decking and turf to gravel, creating different areas with distinctive materials (think a decked area near the door, a small greenery area and a gravel path) will give your small garden a contemporary landscaped and colourful look.

2. Use symmetry

Having one central focus piece, whether it’s a bench or shed, and focussing all of your plants around it will bring organisation to a small space.

3. Be clever with your furniture

Choose white furniture and place it at the back of your garden to give the illusion of more space. If you partially hide the furniture it will also trick the eye into thinking there is more to find.

4. Pick unusual fencing

When choosing your fencing, go for something a little unusual to give your space a design edge without taking up space with bulky sculptures or water features

5. Take it up high

If you don’t have the space to fill your garden patio with plant pots and flower beds, using your fencing and exterior walls will help free up precious square-footage.
