Got a blender? Roast loads of veg and potatoes and blend them, add some crème fresh and season to taste. Heat up and then enjoy. (I recommend butternut squash and bacon soup)

Cheese and bacon pasta bake (Veggie option: Try adding some broccoli instead of bacon)

  • 2 rashers bacon
  • 225g penne pasta
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 1 clove of garlic (chopped)

  • 30g butter
  • 3 tablespoons plain flour
  • 475ml milk

  1. Preheat oven to 180 C / Gas 4.
  2. Cook the bacon then  cut it into pieces
  3. In a large pot with boiling salted water, cook the pasta and drain.
  4. In a frying pan, throw in the chopped onion and garlic until sautéed. Then take it off the heat and add the bacon and set it aside.
  5. To make the sauce, melt the butter over low heat. Add the flour and stir for 2 minutes. Gradually add milk and continue stirring until thick. Stir in 2/3 of the grated Cheddar cheese until melted.
  6. Combine cooked pasta, veg and sauce. Pour into a baking dish. Sprinkle remaining cheese.
  7. Bake until cheese on top is melted and brown (15/20 mins)

  3. Take the chicken out after 30mins total cooking time (Check it’s cooked thoroughly)
  4. Spread some bbq sauce on top, wrap the bacon around it and then lay some cheese on top or grate it on

Top Tip 1: Always look in the reduced sections of supermarkets at around 6-7pm to grab yourself a bargain. The food is fine as it is the current day’s date and then you can just freeze it when you get home to make it last longer.

Top Tip 2: Buy your food together as a group shop so that you save money on delivery and also benefit from large voucher offers. Use a joint loyalty card and save the points up for a group treat at the end of each term.

Top Tip 3: Use Tesco as a new customer and get £5.25 cashback when you make your first online order. You can also redeem cashback as Tesco Clubcard points!

Top Tip 4: Use our Phone App to save money whilst in stores. Use Snap & Save to ‘Snap’ an image of your receipt and send it to us to earn cashback. There are also in-store vouchers available on the app.
