A little apology too for my comment about the countdown clock, the doh! Was aimed at myself, as I could have sworn it was correct earlier in the day! My guess is it's a time zone gmt vs bst server clock setting thing.

ShazzaK11 September 2019, 23:03 I won a total of 5.30 overall so was pleased. Some of the negative comments on this blog are fair and I have to agree quite frustrating. In particular when either something goes wrong or the hummingbird doesn’T appear on the retailer you know it to be. It took me several attempts on two particular sites to finally get the bird to appear. Overall though it’S fun and equally so frustrating at times but at end of day, you don’T β€˜Have’ To participate nor do you get anything for free in this life. Come on all, it’S harmless fun

I'm going to suggest that perhaps not quite as many Β£100 instant win prizes but instead have more prizes in the final draw. Say ten instant win Β£100 prizes rather than three (or twenty) because at some time in the last year it was six? Use Β£500 of the Β£100 instant prizes pot to have more smaller instant win prizes too, than this particular treats. I find the small prizes can still be handy to top up my current cashback closer to where i'll decide to pay it out.

Have say ten smaller prizes of Β£50 drawn after the Β£1000. After the winner of the Β£1000 is drawn, their entries should be excluded at that point or just redrawn until another, different member wins Β£50. And so on until all the Β£50 prizes are drawn. That would make eleven winners in the final draw instead of just one. Maybe that way people wouldn't mind so much if they thought they had a better chance of winning something with more pde. With Β£100 instant win prizes only available by collecting prize items there is still an incentive to collect prize items too. Keep the other prize values I haven't specifically mentioned as instant wins.

It's just an idea, and possibly administratively, more final draw prizes are harder/More costly to implement but I wanted to make the suggestion.

I don't mind pde, I don't mind small prizes but I don't enjoy it when a website doesn't work and I either miss out or may have missed out because of it. Like a particular retailer who would probably net me considerable cashback against a matching considerable spend, if only their website worked properly. For the most part in this my first year of using Top, my cashback has come directly from Top Cashback, in the form of tell a friend joining bonus, introductory cashback offers for first spend, snap & Save, bonus cashback and treats. So far only one retailer I use semi regularly has consistently worked as advertised with zero fuss. The others, it's been quite hit or miss. Even some that do work take a very long time to pay out and i've noticed sometimes the time quoted in dashboard lengthens too.

What I am getting at is that Top are being generous by running multiple treats competitions annually aswell as the other bonuses I have mentioned. How Top conduct themselves is why I continue to be a member, because it does seem to me that the retailers don't always play fair and to be honest I would have given up by now if I could only gain cashback purely through the retailers I normally shop at.

I don't think the game is fixed, not in the slightest, because if that was the case Top Cashback wouldn't exist sharing cashback, they'd just be that advertiser you see all the time when you visit some webpage. I think sometimes it can be hard to remember these are real people with real lives trying to bring us all some extra cash, I don't have a problem with them making profit from their efforts either. The game is quirky and related to them and "free" to play. How much time anyone spends on it is up to them. If the time spent isn't worth it, don't play or spend less time playing as appropriate.

I gave some thought to other ways they might run a completely different competition but I admit it's better that to play doesn't relate to spend, everybody can play this way.

I don't necessary disagree with latinsoulboy's suggestion, though I do wonder if all the amounts were smaller if they are enough of an incentive. I do think in order for people to be finding hummingbirds this competion there must have been a higher ratio of pde to prize items simply because there are fewer prizes. For those that have played before the contrast is quite marked. Multiple days of pde instead of multiple pde a day with a sprinkling of prize items, maybe one a day. And I say that when I had two or three buses very early on in the competition and really thought I might win Β£100. To be honest, I was probably more excited about potentially being able to share that - yes prizes are actually won - in this blog than I was about winning the amount itself.

Lastly, the blog didn't go live this treats for quite some time, so late that I thought the negative comments from the end of last treats had put a stop to it. I do find the game more fun when I can share finds with others as I have learned that a pde for me might be a prize item for someone else. As well as having less time to play, I found I wasn't as interested in playing when it wasn't available.

If this was actioned they've be unlimited prizes and I am afraid that just can't happen.

There is a set number of prizes for a reason and this needs to be kept in order to be fair for everyone.

Every bird should guarantee a prize on daily clue no more finding birds just to get more pdes and waste alot of time.

I would like to find three more birds, one pde and two prize items since I suspect if I do find a prize item, it will be a science flask first (the only prize I am more than one away from). Then after that any prize item will do. 20p 50p Β£1 Β£5 Β£10 Β£20 Β£100. I don't care which, I just want to win more than 10p. Could be a tall order though. Just one more pde will take me to 70 entries for the draw.

I think we are definitely seeing the side affects of less prizes overall from the same overall pot with more bigger instant win prizes. I still think there is a better balance to be struck to please more of the players, though you can never please all of the people all of the time.

I'm really angry that I fell for it.
The idea is never to spend hours playing this game. The idea is to play it as you're browsing the site.

We are not a games company and instead a cashback site who has produced and paid for this competition from our own pockets.

We receive many positive comments from it but unfortunately there are some that feel that a prize should be guaranteed due to the amount of time they spent playing.

We will manage people's expectations as much as we can here but what we can't change is what people perceive they should receive.

Latinosoulboy8 September 2019, 05:20 This has been the worst ever! Nothing but pde's Usually from previous competitions i've won at least 10p, 20p and 50p! Not that i'm saying 80p makes up for all the stupid time we waste on this nonsense, but to say it's random when very clearly it isn't is rather sad. How can a random selection produce 45 pde's in a row? The weird thing is, a friend of mine wasn't aware of this competition and early tonight they did all the 16 daily clues and they were all pde's! Random? Really?

I think we all need to ignore any more future cashback giveaways like this. They are a waste of time.
There will be others that when you won a prize didn't win anything, perhaps they were the ones who won this time around.

I am sorry you feel a prize should be guaranteed, this is not something we can do.

Didn't go back on until after lunch and lo and behold first search got me a prize! Not one that won me any money of course, just one that got me a bit closer to winning. Since then back to pde's. Now if I was a cynical person I would think that the prize this morning, shortly after I had complained about no prizes, was from TCB monitoring this blog and fixing the game but, of course, that's only if I was a cynical person!!!!
i am really sorry to disappoint you but there's nothing clever about this. There's no secret conspiracy, no dirty tactics, no monitoring what people say and giving them prizes to make them happy.

Just a game system, that at random gives people the final hummingbird to fill their collection and win a prize.
There’S not just one or two prizes, there’S literally thousands and i’M truly sorry that you have spent so much time thinking up why you have not won a large prize.

You're sort of right, it does stop too many people getting the final item in their collection. That's to ensure the right amount of prizes are given out.

Latinosoulboy7 September 2019, 13:44 There is a much fairer way to run this competition in future that won't annoy anyone. If the prize fund is Β£12,500 make everyone who finds a hummingbird match a prize image on their board as well as their automatic entry into the draw. The more you search for hummingbirds, the greater your chance of winning prize money.

Lower the prize tiers so more people can win and remove the Β£20 and Β£100 winning sections of the prize board to allow for lots more lower value winners.

For example :

* = 10p
** = 20p
*** = 50p
**** = Β£1
**** = Β£3
**** = Β£4
**** = Β£5
***** = Β£10

Have a top prize of Β£500 and 20 winners of Β£100 and the remaining Β£10,000 is what goes on prize board winnings. So the sooner you search randomly for hummingbirds, the greater your chance of winning from that Β£10,000 allocated prize board. As soon as the balance reaches zero, at least everyone knows the remaining hummingbirds found are pde's and they are in a prize draw with 21 chances of winning. Either the top prize of Β£500 or 20 chances of winning Β£100.

This system is much fairer for all as I would still play even if the prize board head reached zero knowing I still have 21 chances of winning the final prize draw and not just one chance.

The current system has given me over 40 pde's in a row! Doesn't feel random to me! Everyone notices on the last few days of this competition, that all you ever see are pde's anyway. So if you changed to my suggestion, folks would still only see pde's the last few days (As prize board would likely have reached zero) but would still be happy to play as they have 21 chances of being a winner!
We do appreciate the time taken to send in your suggestion.

To work with this idea, we would either have to hugely increase the number of items per set or increase the number of sets.

While we do have thousands of prizes available, if we gave out an item every time someone collects a bird, there wouldn't be enough to go around.

Latinosoulboy7 September 2019, 05:23 Most folks waste hours trying to find treats over the course of this competition only to maybe win 10p or if you're extremely lucky, 50p in money but if you simply went to icelolly on TopCashback and did a holiday search, you'll earn 10p just for doing a search which will be payable within 6 weeks and you can do this 3 times a day, everyday meaning you can make an average of Β£9 every month for a fraction of the time you spend on this competition trying to win 10p lol!

They say the treats or pde's are random! Why is it that I only need one treat for every prize category apart from the Β£100 treats where i'm missing two! I've found over 68 hummingbirds and not won a penny! With 2 days to go I can guarantee I will only see pde's. For the time wasted on this competition it really isn't worth bothering apart from the daily clues which you can do once a day for 10 seconds. The chances of winning the star prize are not worth the time and effort with the hummingbirds.

I've just this second found a hummingbird on Love Energy Savings and surprise surprise, it's another pde! I think that's the 40th pde in a row now. I've given up with this and won't ever play again.
Top_Frances7 September 2019, 00:59 I've had a problem with today's daily clue, again. :O(

Same issue I had a couple of treats ago. The bird flew into Microsoft Store at warp speed but I still tapped it very quickly, only the page got stuck on the darkened screen with the circle of white dots that comes up before the graphic box with the bird and the school backpack before the reveal of the treat.

I waited two whole minutes but then refreshed the page because it clearly wasn't going to finish loading (based on previous experience) and the bird flew in again, I was slower to tap this time and guess what - a pde!

I'll never know if it should have been something else because the timestamp recorded was for the second tap, not the first because I took screenshots that are timestamped. The daily clue time recorded for me was at 19 minutes past the hour, not 17 of the first tap. :O(

It should be noted that TCB suggested I raise a support ticket during that treats that I had a problem to check my prizes but I was unable to do so before the competition closed and it seemed somewhat pointless after the prizes had all been won. If all that can be seen is the time of the second tap recorded in my daily clue list then it seems there is nothing other than making this comment I can do this time either. Also clearing browser cache etc made no difference last time as it occurred with more than one bird, and one of them right after I had done the suggested actions.

Que cera cera. I'll just have to put my faith in "What's for you, won't go by you." And tell myself with more of the larger instant win prizes it stands to reason there are more pde out there too.

I have 10p so far but although i'll hopefully play some more before the competition ends i'm not thinking another prize item for the Β£1, Β£5, Β£10, or Β£100 I am one item away from is hugely likely for me now. Whilst there is still some chance with Β£1500 of instant win prizes still available other than the Β£1000 grand draw prize, it's not as good a position as it seemed earlier in the competition.

Anyway, as I haven't been playing so often, it's been harder to remember where I had already found random birds, so I made a list. A lot of these were pde for me: I have 13 prize items total and some of those were on the daily clues which are not in this list. One persons pde can often be someone elses prize item so have at this list, hope it helps someone:

We have increased the number of large winners by quite a lot.

Our members told us they wanted more chances to win larger prizes and so we have done this.

It is all down to luck at the end of the day and It's disappointing you feel you have put so much effort and time into winning that the 30p doesn’T seem worth it.
