loyalty cards

Loyalty points are huge in the UK. In fact, collectively we earn at least £5.7 billion in rewards each year, which works out at around £112 per person.

From Tesco Clubcard and Boots Advantage Card to British Airways’ Executive Club, the opportunity to earn money or rewards every time you shop is huge. However, it’s always worth looking at how you could make even more.

Here are our top tips to make sure you get the most from loyalty schemes.

  1. Sign up to all of the loyalty schemes and programmes you will find useful. Even if you don’t shop with a retailer every week, it’s worth joining for when you do.
  2. Once you’ve signed up to the loyalty schemes, register for their marketing emails. Most brands will email members with extra deals and discounts or bonus days.
  3. Layer up your loyalty by also using a loyalty credit card when shopping. For example, you can get extra points by using a cashback credit card when shopping with Tesco and earning Tesco Clubcard points. You can even earn extra cashback on top by shopping via TopCashback.
  4. If you can, hold out on buying until the retailer you want to shop with is having a bonus such as double points.
  5. It’s worth saving up your loyalty points so they have a bigger impact on your wallet. For example, you could save them up to help with Christmas dinner each year or a special treat.
  6. When it comes to spending your points, it’s worth taking a little bit of time to figure out what gets you the most. Some retailers will boost the value of your points for certain purchases meaning you’ll get more for your money.
