Find the Right Ticket for You

Whether you’re a frequent traveller, exploring Scotland on holiday or looking for a day out with family and friends, ScotRail can help find the best tickets for you. Just answer a series of questions and they’ll show you matching ScotRail tickets and Railcards. Book tickets in advance and you’ll save compared to buying them on the train. Plus, not all ScotRail train tickets are available from on-board staff.

If you’re a commuter, you can make the most of discounted tickets when travelling frequently on the same route. There are flexible ticket options you can buy online which are tailored to how often you travel and at what time of day. Weekly, monthly and annual season tickets work out much cheaper than buying standard anytime day return train tickets. Another benefit is you won’t have to queue at the ticket machine each time you travel.

Anytime tickets give you the chance to enjoy train travel on ScotRail services when you want, on any day and at any time, while if you’re looking to travel during a less busy period, an off-peak ticket you’re making the most of a reduced rate — and you’re likely to find a quieter train. Choose a Flexipass, meanwhile, and you can make 10 journeys on the same route within 60 days. How does ScotRail Flexipass work? Well, you don’t need to buy a ticket as you can just tap in and out of each journey.

You can also travel in style by going first class, which is available onboard eXpress ScotRail services between Edinburgh and Glasgow, plus intercity services connecting Scotland’s seven cities. You’ll enjoy more legroom and larger seats, plug sockets and blinds. If you’re travelling for leisure, you can buy advance tickets from as little as £5 or choose off-peak tickets. There’s also super off-peak day return ScotRail tickets, which will let you enjoy the cheapest fare on their least busy ScotRail trains.

You can save up to a third when you travel as a group of three or more, while a Kids for a Quid ticket allows each fare-paying adult to take up to four kids for an additional £1. There are also various Railcards available, including a Disabled Persons Railcard and a Senior Railcard, which will get you at least a third off your rail travel. Whether you're travelling to or from Glasgow Central, Edinburgh Waverley or any of the other train stations on the rail operator's network, there are plenty of options when it comes to buying tickets.
