Take some stress out of your life by knowing that help is at hand if your car breaks down with cover from Green Flag. They operate a smart network of specialists who are there to get you on the move again, with various levels of breakdown cover available to you, including Rescue Plus and Recovery Plus, as well as an option for driving in Europe and business breakdown.
They have specialist equipment if it is needed, while they will get you out at no extra charge if your car or van gets stuck in a ditch. If they are unable to repair your motor immediately, they will take you to a garage at no extra cost, while you will not have to fork out extra fees if they have to pay toll costs on their way to you.
Should you break down out of garage hours, meanwhile, they will take you to your house of flat first, then get you there when it opens, while when it comes to your renewal, if you have not had to call on them, Green Flag will give you a no call-out discount.
Manage your policy online if you need to change your details, while if you download their breakdown app, they can pinpoint your location through GPS and you can track your technician or get updates on the progress of your breakdown. Read Green Flag reviews or click on their blog to find information on a range of topics, from how to check if your tyres are legal to jargon used by garages.
There are two choices when it comes to the type of Green Flag breakdown cover you opt for. Personal Green Flag cover means they will come to your assistance no matter what vehicle you are in, providing it is less than 16 years old, is privately registered and is being used in the UK at the time.
An added bonus of this option is that the vehicle you have registered on your Green Flag policy will be covered, no matter whether you are in the car or not. Opt for private Green Flag cover, meanwhile, and the vehicle you register with them will be covered, regardless of who the driver is, which means they will still rescue the car even if you are not in it at the time of the breakdown.
There are four main levels of Green Flag breakdown cover, in addition to their European Plus option, meaning you can choose the policy which best suits your motoring needs or budget in terms of the cost.
Opt for Rescue and you will benefit from roadside assistance, which means that if your car cannot be repaired on the spot, it will be taken to the nearest local garage. You can also have unlimited callouts, as long as it is not for the same problem, while Rescue Plus also includes cover at home.
While the Recovery option does not include cover at home, it does feature national recovery, which means that should your car break down, you and everyone else in it, be it your family or friends, will be taken to a destination of your choice in England, Wales, Scotland or Northern Ireland.
The most popular UK breakdown option is the comprehensive Recovery Plus policy, which includes roadside assistance, unlimited call outs, cover at home and national recovery, as well as onward travel, which will see Green Flag arrange a hire car, accommodation or alternative transport if they cannot fix your vehicle at the roadside. Finally, you can get all of the above, plus European cover, with Euro Plus.
Green Flag began with an idea thought up by two friends, Bob Slicer and Jeffery Pittock, and the National Breakdown Recovery Club was formed in 1971 as an alternative option to AA and RAC breakdown cover.
It operated in a different way, using a network of garages and mechanics to recover and fix drivers' cars. Initially, they only covered breakdowns within a 50-mile radius of their Bradford base but within three years had become the largest breakdown recovery firm in the country, with more than 100,000 members.
The company was acquired by National Car Parks (NCP) in 1984 and was renamed Green Flag 10 years later. In 1999, Green Flag became part of the RBS Group when it was acquired by Direct Line for £200 million. Their operations are now controlled, 24 hours a day, from centres in Leeds and Glasgow.
If you plan to take your car abroad and want some cover for your journey, there are options open to you when it comes to taking out Green Flag European breakdown cover.
If you regularly take trips in Europe with your car, you can opt for an annual multi-trip policy, while they also offer a policy ideal for a short, single trip.
Euro Plus breakdown cover is the best option if you are travelling abroad multiple times within a year and features everything you might need on your route, including roadside assistance 24 hours a day, seven days a week, alternative travel and accommodation options and the ability to make calls to an English-speaking help centre team if you need any advice or assistance.
If you are planning a weekend away or a single trip, short-term Green Flag European breakdown cover might suit you better. You can buy it for last-minute getaways, while it offers standard benefits like 24/7 roadside assistance and both repatriation and pre-departure cover.
Visit greenflag.com and you will be able to choose from a host of other cover options, depending on the type or number of vehicles you have.
If you are looking to cover your business fleet, they will soon get you back up and running, whether it is cars, motorbikes or vans you use. Buy online and you will be able to cover up to 50 vehicles on one policy.
If this is not enough, you can cover more against breakdowns if you contact them. You can also arrange motorbike cover, regardless of who is driving it, or choose a personal policy and be covered on any machine which is under 16 years old.
A multi-car policy allows you to protect extra vehicles at your home -- up to four cars, vans, motorbikes or motorhomes -- while your caravan or trailer will be covered (size and weight limits apply) if it is being pulled by a vehicle you have a Green Flag breakdown policy for, meaning you are covered on nationwide campsites.
