What are Nectar points?
Nectar points are loyalty points given to Sainsbury’s Nectar members when they shop at Sainsbury’s or one of their participating partners. You’ll earn one Nectar Point per £1 you spend in store or online.

How much are Nectar points worth?
Nectar points have a value of 0.5p each, which means you’ll need 1,000 Nectar points for £5, and 2,000 points for £10. Check out the Nectar points value calculator table below:
Nectar points | Nectar points value |
---|---|
1 | 0.5p |
100 | 50p |
500 | £2.50 |
1,000 | £5 |
2,000 | £10 |
4,000 | £20 |

What's the best way to use Nectar points?
You aren’t limited to spending your Nectar points at Sainsbury’s. You can redeem your points at a range of Sainsbury’s brands and reward partners, including Habitat, Tu, Argos, Nectar Hotels, and even Eurostar.
The majority of Sainsbury’s reward partners will give you £2.50 for 500 Nectar points.

We reckon the best way to get the optimum value from your balance is to spend it on something you’re planning to buy already. That might mean you spend your balance on your weekly shop at Sainsbury’s, or a replacement kettle from Habitat or Argos.
Here’s the lowdown on where you can spend your Nectar points and how much value you’ll get out of them.
Bear in mind that Nectar points can usually only be spent in increments of 500 points/£2.50 vouchers. If you have £9 in points, you’ll be able to spend either £2.50, £5, or £7.50 worth of points.
You generally can’t collect Nectar points on any transaction where you have paid for part or all of it in points.
Sainsbury’s Groceries
💰 In store, online or in-app
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
The easiest way to spend Nectar points is to apply them to your Sainsbury’s food shop. Even better, if you keep an eye out for Nectar Prices, you could get a discount on your shopping.
If you’re shopping in store, select the option to pay with points at the self-checkout or ask the cashier at the till before you pay. For online orders, you’ll need to link your Nectar account to your Sainsbury’s Groceries account before you can spend your points online or on the app.

Habitat
💰 In store or online
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
Whether you’re buying bath towels or a new coffee table, spending your Nectar points at Habitat is a nice way to get discounted (or even free) homeware.
There are more than 600 Sainsbury’s stores selling Habitat products, although this is usually a limited selection. Browse home fragrance products, photo frames, mirrors, plant pots, kitchenware and more, and don’t forget to look out for Nectar Prices to bag a bargain.
From made-to-order sofas and dining furniture to garden living, Habitat are renowned for their premium quality furniture at affordable prices.
You may find Habitat furniture if you’re shopping in a particularly big store, but for the most comprehensive look at what’s on offer, we’d recommend shopping via the Habitat website.

Tu Clothing
💰 In store or online
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
If you’re shopping for trendy, high-quality clothing, accessories, pyjamas and footwear, why not put your Nectar points towards a Tu Clothing spend?
Sainsbury’s run huge sale events on Tu throughout the year, so you could save up your Nectar points to spend in the next one. We’ve seen discounts as high as 50%, making it easier than ever for you to stack those savings.

Argos
💰 In store, online or in-app
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
Argos are an official Sainsbury’s brand, which means you can spend your Nectar points on Argos purchases.
You can spend between 500 points (£2.50) and 100,000 points (£500) in one transaction, either online or in store.
Before you make your purchase, make sure you’ve linked your Argos account to your Nectar account.
Spending your Nectar points at Argos can be a smart money-saving move if you’re buying essential items.
Whether it’s a Ninja air fryer or a Dyson vacuum, your Nectar points can help you reduce your overall spend.

Sainsbury’s petrol stations
💰 In store only
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
If you live within a reasonable distance of a Sainsbury’s petrol station, discounting your fuel using Nectar points could be a smart way to save money.
Sainsbury’s petrol stations offer the same value for points as their stores, so 500 points are worth £2.50 to spend on petrol. However, you’ll need to pay at the kiosk and swipe your Nectar Card to redeem points in this way (they can’t be redeemed if you’re paying at the pump).
Esso petrol stations
💰 In store only
🐝 300 Nectar points = 5p off per litre of fuel
If you’re filling up at a participating Esso-branded service station, you can swap 300 Nectar points and get 5p off every litre of fuel. There’s a minimum fill of 10 litres, and your discount only applies to the first 60 litres of fuel.

As you can see below, the value for money here clearly varies depending on how many litres of fuel you buy. The price of petrol at Esso on May 8th, 2025, is 133.9p per litre.
Litres of fuel | Price before 5p per litre discount | Price after 5p per litre discount | Money saved |
---|---|---|---|
10 litres | £13.39 | £12.89 | 50p |
20 litres | £26.78 | £25.78 | £1 |
30 litres | £40.17 | £38.67 | £1.50 |
40 litres | £53.56 | £51.56 | £2 |
50 litres | £66.95 | £64.45 | £2.50 |
60 litres | £80.34 | £77.34 | £3 |
10 litres of fuel
Total price before discount: £13.39
Total price after discount: £12.89
Money saved: 50p
20 litres of fuel
Total price before discount: £26.78
Total price after discount: £25.78
Money saved: £1
30 litres of fuel
Total price before discount: £40.17
Total price after discount: £38.67
Money saved: £1.50
40 litres of fuel
Total price before discount: £53.56
Total price after discount: £51.56
Money saved: £2
50 litres of fuel
Total price before discount: £66.95
Total price after discount: £64.45
Money saved: £2.50
60 litres of fuel
Total price before discount: £80.34
Total price after discount: £77.34
Money saved: £3
300 Nectar points would be worth £1.50 to spend at Sainsbury’s, so the Esso scheme actually offers worse value for points if you’re filling up less than 30 litres. But if you buy the 60-litre maximum, you’ll be doubling your Nectar points value.
Travel and accommodation
If you’re a frequent traveller or are thinking of booking a trip, why not cut costs by putting your Nectar points balance towards a hotel, train or flight?
Nectar Hotels
💰 Online only
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
With Nectar Hotels, 500 Nectar points will get you £2.50 towards your booking. If you select ‘spend Nectar points’ when you search, the website will show hotel prices in Nectar points rather than pounds, making it easier to see the value of your points.
Although you can pay with a mix of Nectar points and cash, you’ll only really save money if you have a very large number of points on your Nectar Card.
For example, we saw a Bristol Marriott Royal Hotel stay that cost £145, which is 52,000 Nectar points.
However, you can also earn Nectar points quickly if you frequently book hotel stays via Nectar Hotels. The £145 hotel stay would have earned you 1,500 Nectar points to spend on a future trip (equivalent to £7.50).

Eurostar trips
💰 Online or in-app
🐝 500 Nectar points = £2.50
Your Nectar points can also be converted to vouchers and put towards a Eurostar booking, although they can only be spent in 2,000-point increments.
Nectar points are worth the standard rate when redeemed with Eurostar (500 points for £2.50), so if you have 2,000 points to redeem, that’ll get you £10 off your booking.
If you don’t have enough points to pay for the trip in full, you can part-pay in points.

Avios
💰 Online or in-app
🐝 400 Nectar points = £2.50
British Airways Avios Club members can convert Nectar points to Avios. For every 400 Nectar points you have, you’ll get 250 Avios points.
Because Avios points are generally worth 1p each, this means 400 Nectar points will convert to £2.50 worth of Avios points. This boosts the value of your Nectar points, as the standard rate is 500 points for £2.50.

Get a bargain coffee at Caffè Nero
💰 In store only
🐝 400 Nectar points = one hot drink
You can treat yourself to any size hot drink from Caffè Nero with 400 Nectar points, offering a fantastic redemption value.
400 Nectar Card points will only get you £2 to spend at Sainsbury’s, but could buy you a coffee worth as much as £5 at Caffè Nero.
A Caffè Nero coffee could cost anywhere from around £3.40 for a regular americano to £4.85 for a large vanilla latte, so this could be between £1.40 and £2.85 in extra savings.

💰 In store only
🐝 4,000 Nectar points = £20 to spend
If you’re planning any home improvements, you can use your Nectar points to buy paint, woodcare, wallpaper and decorating tools at Dulux Decorator Centre.
You can redeem points in increments of 4,000, which will get you a £20 voucher to spend in store. This works out at the standard rate of 500 points to £2.50 in cash value.
To request your voucher, you need to go through the Nectar website. Your vouchers will be sent via post within 15 days. Dulux Decorator Centre vouchers can’t be spent online.

Sweeten the deal with Nectar
Of all the supermarket loyalty schemes, Nectar Card has to be one of the most generous. With the chance to earn points at Sainsbury’s, Argos, Habitat, Tu Clothing and more, racking up decent rewards can be quick and easy.
If you need any extra help converting points, do a quick search for a Nectar points calculator online. But as most retailers offer the same cash value for your points, we reckon the best way to maximise your value with Nectar is to spend your points on things you’re already planning to buy.
Whether that’s your grocery shop or new furniture, it’s better to save on something you were going to buy anyway than get a deal on something you hadn’t planned to purchase.
With a little forward planning, you can turn your Nectar balance into a very rewarding little cash pot. Not a Sainsbury's shopper? Check out our guides to My Waitrose and the Iceland Bonus Card.
