How does Asda Rewards work? Get the full money savings

Last updated: 23/01/2026

The Asda Rewards scheme is Asda's answer to Tesco Clubcard, Sainsbury's Nectar points, My Waitrose, and similar loyalty schemes that other supermarkets offer. It's a way to get better deals and other rewards just for shopping at your favourite supermarket.

Loyal and consistent Asda shoppers get heaps of benefits, in store and online, to help them save cash week in, week out.

Unlike many other loyalty schemes, Asda don't offer exclusive prices to Asda Rewards customers. Instead, their 'Pounds, not Points' policy puts money into your Asda Rewards Cashpot, when you spend. It's a way to make a bit of money back on the shopping you need to do!

Read on to learn more about Asda's loyalty scheme, how to get your own Asda Rewards card, and how you can enjoy all the rewards without spending a penny more than you have to.

How does Asda Rewards work?

If you're familiar with other supermarket reward loyalty schemes, then you won't find Asda Rewards too hard to grasp. You earn rewards – and earn pounds – by shopping at Asda. However, it's different in several ways that help you save if you shop craftily.

It's worth mentioning that Asda Rewards has changed hugely in recent years. The scheme has had a redesign, removing features like Blue Light Card discounts and Star Products bonus rewards.

You won't just get points for every pound you spend, or unlock specific loyalty prices by being an Asda Rewards member. Apart from anything else, they try and offer great Asda prices to all customers.

Instead, you earn your Asda Pounds in very specific ways through their rewards app.

Please note that you cannot get a physical Asda Rewards Card. The scheme only exists in app form. There is no such thing as an actual card you can tap for savings and cashback at Asda.

Asda Rewards scheme missions

Missions are a key way to build up your Asda Cashpot rewards and earn cash just for buying the things you love.

When you log in to Asda Rewards, it will show you specific missions, each of which comes with a specific cash reward.

These can vary greatly, but most are possible to fit into a regular shop, and you can earn them both in store and online. To complete missions, you might be tasked with:

  • Shopping at Asda a certain number of times

  • Buying a minimum number of something, such as 10 items of fruit and veg

  • Buying specific brands, or even specific products from those brands

  • Spending a certain amount of money on specific categories, such as George or groceries

Depending on the mission and the amount it requires you to spend, you could get anywhere from 50p to £5 added to your Cashpot balance.

If you hit your spending targets consistently, money can pour into your account, with you earning pounds, not points.

When you make a shopping trip that completes your mission, scan your app when you check out and pay. This will see the money added to your pot.

You get these missions weekly, and each lasts about a month. They have their expiry date in the top left of each mission in the app, so keep an eye on that if you have a specific one in mind next time you go grocery shopping.

Asda Rewards Milestone Missions

Milestone Missions are another, more gradual way for you to earn Asda rewards and accumulate pounds on your purchases.

Just start scanning your Asda Rewards app every time you make an Asda purchase. When your total spend, across all of your shopping trips, reaches a certain value, you get more added to your Cashpot.

Milestone Missions are usually worked out per month, allowing you to start from nothing every few weeks and build up to those rewards again.

However, the monetary value for each Milestone Mission has significantly declined, and these days is usually less than £1 each.

Still, it's a way to reward you for one or more big shops in a month at no extra cost to you.

Petrol purchases

At some Asda petrol stations, you can add to your Asda Rewards Cashpot when you fill up your car. For every litre of petrol you buy, you get 0.5p added to your account.

If you're already planning on getting fuel at Asda, this is a great extra way to improve your Asda Rewards balance that comes hassle-free.

This doesn't apply to all the supermarkets Asda have in the country, however, and it can be hard to check which ones qualify.

Don't hesitate to reach out to Asda and ask, or ask a colleague in store, if you're not sure whether your Asda shop offers this.

How do you claim your Asda Rewards Cashpot?

Your Cashpot is the main perk of being an Asda Rewards member. As they say, users don't earn points when they shop. Instead, completing missions and hitting Milestones puts money directly into your account. It's not hidden behind point values you need to translate; it's shown as the money it is.

However, Asda Rewards looks a bit more like other supermarkets' loyalty apps when you go to actually spend the money you've made.

Rather than spend directly, you need to convert your Cashpot into an Asda voucher. You can do this with most of the money in your account, but it always rounds down to the pound below.

If you have £6.01 in your Asda Rewards account, you can get a £6 Asda voucher. If you have £6.91, you can still only get a £6 voucher.

The leftover money will remain in your account until you get enough to make a voucher.

To claim your voucher, click on the 'Spend' button at the bottom of the app. Then, select however much of your Cashpot you'd like to turn into a voucher with the slider.

Then, scan both the app and this voucher at checkout and get money off your shop.

Both your Cashpot and your vouchers expire. Money in your Cashpot expires six months after you earn it, whereas vouchers have their own individual expiration dates. Be careful your hard-earned money doesn’t disappear before you can redeem it. Even if it's only a small amount, it's still a cheaper Asda shop.

Asda Rewards Coupons

Your Cashpot is the main way you get money back with Asda Rewards, and they don't offer broad discounts like Tesco Clubcard. However, your Asda Rewards Wallet will sometimes contain coupons.

In a way, these work similarly to missions, but are usually more specific and give discounts, instead of going into your Asda Rewards Cashpot.

You might get £2 off when you spend £10 or more on greeting cards, £25 off a trip to the opticians, and much more!

It's a way to save from the other end of your purchase, getting money off the price even as you get it back in your Cashpot.

Other Asda Rewards app perks

Asda Rewards members also get access to the free Asda Baby and Toddler Club scheme, which further builds on their cashback and other Rewards promotions.

Existing members and people new to the app can both join for free by clicking on its tab in Asda Rewards.

Asda Baby and Toddler Club gives you 50p of cashback every time you spend £5 or more on selected baby products in store. This is another way to boost your Cashpot to spend on further discounts at Asda, helping save you more at an infamously expensive stage of life when you have bigger concerns than bargain-hunting.

With Asda Rewards, you can also opt into the supermarket's Cashpot for Schools initiative. This is a contribution you make to a selected primary school in your area.

When you sign up for this charitable scheme, Asda make an initial £1 donation to the school, which costs you nothing.

Then, 0.5% of your spend on every subsequent shop gets paid to the school as well. This does not affect your own Asda Rewards cashback or cost you money in any way, shape, or form. It's simply an extra donation fueled by your shopping.

How to save the most with an Asda Rewards loyalty card

The steady stream of cashback from petrol, missions, and Milestones with an Asda Rewards card already provides some value for money when you shop. However, with a few tweaks to how you shop, you can max out your rewards and get as much cashback as you can, without spending more than you need to.

✅ Don't do unnecessary missions

Everyone likes to win, especially when there's money on the line. However, buying the items to complete a Mission will almost always cost you more than the reward value.

If you get challenged to buy more of something than you need, or get a brand you don't particularly like, don't spend the money just because.

If you're on the border, needing to buy one more item or spend slightly more to make a couple of pounds back, then it might be worth it. However, this is a pretty rare case!

It might be easier to get returns on your money if you’re buying things with a long shelf life, like frozen food or cleaning products

A summary of the perks and cash bonuses of the Asda Rewards loyalty scheme

🛒 Prioritise bigger shopping trips

Most Asda Rewards Missions reward one bigger, more efficient shopping trip over multiple smaller ones.

Use a mission as an opportunity to stock up on important items like fruit and veg, or to get something you wouldn’t normally try alongside your weekly shop.

Even with the Mission to shop a certain number of times at Asda, consider whether that reward is worth it. Buying in bulk on one focused trip is a money-saver.

Going in for another trip increases the chances you'll be tempted by treats or new deals. You might complete the Mission, but spend more on temptation buys!

💰Get cashback on your grocery shop

You can stack Asda Rewards with many other savings, including cashback. While Asda themselves might not be on our main TopCashback site (which only applies to online shopping), we have a great many supermarkets available through our TopGiftCards deals.

Asda's included in their ranks, letting you get an even more affordable deal every time you buy groceries.

Even better, these TopGiftCards can be used in-store as well as online. Simply buy a gift card for the amount you normally spend on your shop and get free cashback immediately.

Then, all you need to do is use your gift card online or scan it in store when you pay. It's your usual spend with even better cashback. If you scan your Asda Rewards app as well, you might be able to save twice!

Before you shop at Asda or any other supermarket, it's always worth seeing if that brand is on TopGiftCards and whether you can get a great cashback deal at no additional cost.

Three gift card advertisements: "100s of Brands," "Instant Cashback," and "Treat Yourself," with descriptions of cashback and usage options below each card.

👔 Use the right rewards app for George

George at Asda and Asda Rewards interact in strange ways, particularly when you shop online. Technically speaking, George has its own rewards programme, one that you can access through the Asda Rewards app.

As a result, you can't improve your Asda Rewards Cashpot through George purchases.

You can't use Asda Rewards vouchers online to buy George products, although you can do this in store.

It’s also worth remembering that George at Asda are on TopCashback, allowing you to double down on savings.

📱 Keep an eye on expiration dates

As mentioned above, both your Cashpot and your Asda Reward vouchers expire over time. Neither lasts longer than a few months.

You can make them last longer by waiting six months to turn your Cashpot into vouchers, but even then, they'll become unusable quicker than you think.

In general, it's best to avoid hoarding your Asda Rewards entirely and spend as soon as you earn cash.

If you do want to save them up for a bigger payday, make sure to keep an eye on expiration dates so you don't lose your hard-earned cash.

Asda la vista, baby

Asda Rewards' focus on missions and buying specific items sets it apart from other supermarket reward apps. It doesn't offer blanket discounts, instead rewarding you with cashback and vouchers when you achieve certain goals during your shopping trip.

It isn't as generous as it once was, with well-loved features like Star Products and the Blue Light discount discontinued.

Nonetheless, if you shop at Asda or want to combine great prices with cashback rewards, it's an immensely useful app to have downloaded. It doesn't cost any extra and is effectively bonus money in your Cashpot to spend for very little effort.

With just a few of the tips in this article, you should be ready to save even more with your Asda shopping. Enjoy!
