What is Travel Tuesday?
Travel Tuesday began in 2017 as a way for travel brands to push their deals around the sale season, off the back of Black Friday.
It’s a one-day-only event (or sometimes an extension of a Black Friday/Cyber weekend sale) that takes place online and features discounts of anywhere from 10% to 35%.
As well as major discounts, you can also get perks like free upgrades, bonus loyalty points, and package deals.

When is Travel Tuesday?
This year, Travel Tuesday falls on 2nd December. Some travel deals go live on the day of, although some may start on Black Friday and ramp up for Tuesday deals.
Deals can go live from as early as midnight, so the earlier you hop online, the better. The online deals usually last just one day, although some may stretch out a day longer.
Travel Tuesday deals are often limited and sell out quickly, so it’s first-come, first-served.

Tips for Travel Tuesday
The big event isn’t here yet, but there are some things you can do in preparation for the deals to go live to snap up the best one for your trip.
Set up price alerts
This is a classic tactic for monitoring flight prices, and it’s no different for Travel Tuesday. You can do this with many third-party platforms like Skyscanner, Kayak, and Google Flights to alert you via email when a price dips or rises so you can buy at the best time.
Have a budget in mind
Don’t get sucked in by deals on luxury holidays that are usually completely out of your price range if they’re still more than what you would normally spend. Decide what your maximum price is for that flight, holiday, or cruise, and stick to it.
Shop around
Keep an eye on all of the Black Friday and Travel Tuesday deals to make sure you’re getting a good price. If you have a purchase in mind, make sure you check what it usually costs for your dates, so you know what to compare it to.
Check the details
Booking a holiday can be a big purchase, so make sure to check the T&Cs of a Travel Tuesday deal. Is it ATOL-protected? What’s the cancellation policy? Is it only valid for certain dates?
Check what luggage is included if you’re booking a flight, how much the luggage allowance is, and if any meals are included. What time is your departure and how easy is it to get to the airport? Will you need an overnight hotel on either or both legs? All of these little details can add up to saving or spending a lot of extra money.

Being flexible is key
The best way to bag a Travel Tuesday deal is to be completely flexible, on both location and date. Discounts will usually apply to specific destinations and booking dates, so the more flexible you are, the better the deal you can get.
Don’t book just because
It’s only a deal if it’s something you want – otherwise you’re just spending money. While being flexible is an asset, you want to make sure what you book is something you’re saving money on and you’ll enjoy.
Use your credit card
Credit cards offer more protection, which is especially important for bigger purchases. Some credit cards offer Air Miles or Avios points collection alongside spending, so you’re getting even more with your purchase. You might even be able to snag perks like free airport lounge access so you can save on (over)spending at the airport.

Round-trip > one-way
Round-trip tickets are almost always better value than one-way tickets. In fact, they’re often cheaper than one-way tickets, as airlines can offer bundle deals and reduced fees and taxes.
Similarly, don’t assume that further away means higher prices; factor in in-country costs and you might find that going beyond Europe works out cheaper overall.
Travel off-peak
Travelling off-peak saves you money, but it doesn’t mean you have to go in the dead of winter. Opting for holidays just before or just after peak means you’ll avoid the crowds, save money, but still enjoy decent weather. On this side of the hemisphere, the best months for good value and good weather are May and September.
Go for less popular destinations
Another way flexibility will benefit you on Travel Tuesday is being open to different destinations. Swap out Amsterdam for Utrecht, Berlin for Budapest, or Greece for Bulgaria. With a little research, you’ll find the type of holiday you want without heading for the most tourist-centric locations (which will usually have lower costs as well).

Take advantage of loyalty schemes
Some of the Travel Tuesday brands feature deals for members only or deals that are better for members. Sign up now for free loyalty schemes and keep a note of those you’re already a member of. Some Travel Tuesday deals can include points boosts and free upgrades.
Book directly
Using sites like Skyscanner and Kayak can be great for narrowing down your options and finding the best price, but make sure to book with the airline or hotel directly once you’ve found it. Having a contract directly rather than with a third-party means it’s much easier to sort out changes to your booking, cancellations, rebookings, refunds, and claims.
Can you find a discount code?
If you’ve signed up for emails from your favourite brands, keep an eye out for discount codes in your inbox. Alternatively, you can always do a quick Google: “brand + discount code” will bring up current codes that you can try.
Get cashback
Cashback works as a kind of commission, so you get a little referral bonus when you buy through a cashback site. Our members get free cashback on Travel Tuesday purchases from Expedia, VRBO UK, Qatar Airways, and thousands of other popular brands.
For example, we currently offer 4.2% on flights from Qatar Airways*, so if you spend £300 on their site, you’ll get £12.60 in your cashback account.
*Cashback rate correct at the time of writing.
