Timberland Features

The History Of The Timberland Brand

Timberland's unique designs are inspired by the company's New England heritage, and everything they have made has been founded upon the outdoor lifestyle - be it the countryside or the city.

However, although they are famous for their boots, Timberland also sell clothing, watches, sunglasses and more. The company's founder, Nathan Swartz, began his shoemaking career in 1928 as an apprentice stitcher in Boston, Massachusetts.

By 1952, he had bought half an interest in The Abington Shoe Company in South Boston, and within three years, he had bought the remaining interest and brought his sons into the company. The Swartz family introduced the then innovative injection-molding technology in to the footwear industry in 1965, which allowed them to produce virtually waterproof boots.

The company moved to New Hampshire in 1969 and the brand name Timberland was introduced for the waterproof leather boots in 1973. The boots proved so popular that the firm became known as the Timberland Company. Casual shoes and boots were added to the range, while the 1980s saw the company expand internationally.

Herman Swartz took over the running of the company, introducing women's shoes, but his brother, Sydney, became CEO in 1986. Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, more product lines were added, including backpacks, watches and kids' footwear, while the PRO series of work boots arrived in 1998.

Design Your Own Timberlands

You can bag yourself a unique pair of Timberlands thanks to the fact they allow you to design your own on their website.

With some of their most iconic styles, you can choose everything from the colour to the hardware - and even add a distinct monogram. Each component of the design your own range is customisable, meaning you can create something truly personal to you.

Choose the colour of the upper, which is the main part of the shoe, the tongue, the heel, the side panel and the collar, while when it comes to the hardware, you can opt for glistening brass, warm gold tones or sleek polished black nickel.

Finally, you can pick the colour of your stitching, midsole, sole and laces. To get started, just choose whether you are looking to customise men's, women's or children's shoes and then select your style, while you can also take a look at a few design ideas.

The Iconic Original Six-Inch Boot

If you are looking to add something iconic to your wardrobe, the six-inch Timberland boots could be the thing for you.

The men's walking boot was the shoe which helped start the company’s journey more than 40 years ago. While the yellow boot may have been updated to incorporate the latest footwear technologies and colours, it remains as sturdy and durable as ever.

This means you will be getting modern designs which are built to last while still being comfortable. The women's six-inch premium boots are an essential part of their ladies' collection. They are the ultimate in laid back, casual footwear and can be worn with skirts, dresses or jeans for that perfect weekend look.
