OKA Features

The OKA Story

The brand was launched as a mail order interiors company, called OKA Direct, in 1999 by Annabel Astor, Sue Jones and Lucinda Waterhouse.

Their first catalogue featured a collection of handcrafted rattan accessories and storage solutions which were inspired by ancient Far East designs but adapted for modern living. A year later, their first shop opened in west London and, during the following decade, more popped up in market towns across the UK.

Moving swiftly, an ecommerce website was launched in 2001, which was quickly followed by a trade service, which offered discounts to interior design professionals, property developers and commercial businesses. OKA's luxury furniture range continued to grow, with tableware and painted furniture ranges soon following.

A wedding list service was introduced in 2002 to help newlyweds furnish their first house, while their all-weather rattan outdoor furniture collection was made available in 2005. A room fragrance range, including candles and diffusers, followed, while the brand launched their own interior design service in 2010 for those in need of some help when decorating and furnishing their home. More recent years have seen OKA collaborate with various designers and stylists on numerous collections.

The Women Behind OKA

The original idea for OKA was thought up by Annabel Astor after struggling to decorate her holiday home in Florida.

As a result, the former jewellery business owner decided to establish a luxury interiors company with her sister-in-law, Sue Jones, and friend Lucinda Waterhouse. Astor's skill lies in layering old pieces with new and combining antiques with modern accessories.

Jones, who spent 10 years working with fashion designer Jasper Conran, has an eye for design and an ability to come up with schemes that offer a creative twist. She is equally adept at designing individual pieces as she is tackling an entire house.

Waterhouse previously created and sold beautiful and unique fake flower arrangements, and works closely with her fellow founders to design and source pieces for the entire OKA range, while also overseeing the design and evolution of the brand's chain of stores.

Accessories

If you are in need of some finishing touches to complete the new look in a room, you will find a host of stylish accessories which will add some colour or texture to any space on the OKA website.

The products they sell are both decorative and functional, whether you are selecting from the extensive range of OKA cushions, mirrors or rugs, and offer great scope and versatility to your decor. If you are looking for some soft furnishings, you can choose from faux fur throws, bed linen, towels and more, while they also sell artificial flowers and plants, as well as planters and pots. Discover room fragrances, tableware items, storage solutions, decorative items such as log baskets and even pet beds.
