| | Get the Whole Thing | Written on 21 February 2008 | Chris Rea's original eleven CD 'Blue Guitars' project could, with some hard decisions, have been culled down to a brilliant 2-CD set that you wouldn't have to be a blues purist to appreciate. Unfortunately this album is not that set. The tracks here have been chosen either by someone who doesn't care about the music or by someone too close to it to be objective. You're better off buying the eleven CD set (before it disappears, presumably to be displaced by this poor substitute). It's true, 11 CD's is a lot to wade though unless you lead a particularly obsessive life. But you can save yourself some trouble by taking my word that the following tracks - which just fit on to two CDR 80's - are the essentials: West Africa; Cry for Home; KKK Blues; Steam Train Blues; You Got Dixie; Catfish Girl; Dance Avec Moi; What You Done To Me; Texas Blue; Angelina; Texas Line Boogie; Houston Angel; Weekend Down Mexico; Catwalk Woman; Come Change My World; Lucky Day; If I Ever get Over You; Le Fleur de la Vie; Too far From Home; I'll Be There For You; Are You Ready; Till the Morning Sun Shines; The American Way; Lone Star Boogie; What She Really Is; Last Drink; Big White Door; Keep On dancing; Lampiou; Lucifer's Angel; Mindless; Wasted Love; Clarkson Blues; Waiting for Love. If you've got decent software for removing the - unwisely - superimposed pseudo-surface noise on some of these tracks, so much the better.
