Announcing TopCashback Plus Membership

Hi TopCashbackers,

We'd like to announce that you can now get even more, through our TopCashback Plus membership level. And at the same time, we'd also like to introduce a new name to our existing service - TopCashback Classic (which will continue to be just as good as always).

TopCashback Plus
TopCashback Plus members will receive an enhanced level of membership. This means that you’ll receive an exclusive cashback bonus of up to 5% added to all transactions, enhanced extras like the Tell-a-Friend bonus and other great perks like the removal of the sponsored adverts around the site. It will be completely free to join as a TopCashback Plus member, but in return for us bumping up your earnings and improving your site experience, we’ll retain £5 from your cashback pay-out each year. If you don’t earn any cashback throughout the year then we won’t deduct anything at all, so it’s a win-win situation!

TopCashback Plus Features

TopCashback Classic
TopCashback Classic accounts will keep the great service that existing members of TopCashback have so far enjoyed – we do not want to take anything away from our loyal members! This means that Classic members will still get all of the cashback we get from the merchant (along with a 1% cashback bonus added on as standard), will still be able to earn a £10 Tell-a-Friend bonus, can still get their pay-out using our 5% bonus methods, can still match higher cashback rates found elsewhere, and will still have access to over 3,800 merchants, including our ‘faster paying merchants’ where you’ll get your cashback up to 8 weeks quicker - the list goes on and on... This level of service will stay, as it always has been, completely free to join and use.

TopCashback Classic Features

So what does this mean for me?
If you were already a TopCashback member before these new levels were introduced, then everything on your account will remain exactly the same. However, as a loyal, existing member, we’re offering you the chance to take advantage of all the benefits that Plus membership holds for 3 whole months (and don’t forget, that includes enhanced Tell-A-Friend rates and a typical 5% bonus on all of your cashback earnings.) If, during the 3 month trial, you decide that you would actually prefer a Classic account, then you can downgrade without a fuss and we promise we won’t be too offended - but you DO get to keep any cashback bonuses and enhanced Tell-a-Friend rates that you've already benefitted from.

We believe that the added features of our Plus level of membership could really help you save even more money on your online and in-store purchases. However, at TopCashback we’re proud to always stand by our Fair Play Policy, so we’re leaving the decision completely up to you, but we really hope you’ll take advantage of the trial period before you make any snap decisions!

Take a look at the list of Plus features below to see all of the benefits for yourself. Remember, you’ll still be rewarded as a Classic member, but for some extra tasty treats, please make your way up to the Plus counter and make sure you remember to bring a bigger plate!

How can I upgrade to TopCashback Plus?

We're offering all existing TopCashback members a one-off opportunity to try TopCashback Plus for 3 whole months! Next time you login to your TopCashback Account, we will ask you to choose your level of membership and you'll be able to grab that 3 month trial there and then! From then onwards, you'll be able to easily manage your membership level by visiting the My Profile section of your Account and clicking to the Membership Level tab.

UPDATE: We're now also offering cashback deals that are exclusive for Plus members, including (at time of writing) 2.1% cashback on DVD & Blu Rays with Amazon.co.uk! Classic members, you can also get these offers by upgrading your membership level to Plus.

Never got the cashback
Just to check if this cashback thing really works. I got #52.50 for switching to first utility on the 18th of October 2013. Up to now nothing has been paid to me. I recommended some friends and they keep asking me if I got anything yet, and because I haven't, they no longer trust it. I also stopped to use it until I see the results for sure.

  Hi there.

Thanks for your comment.

We are currently working on getting this delay resolved.

I have written to you on a support ticket regarding your particular transaction with First Utility.

We look forward to hearing back from you.

Many thanks,

Missing funds
Over 25.00 has went missing from my account and can't seem to get any information as to where these accumalated funds have went
  Maryellen1957 | 27 Dec 13 - 22:38
  Hi Maryellen1957,

I am sorry that you have some cashback missing from your account.

I have looked into this, and I can't see anything to suggest that you have had any cashback removed from your account.

Is it possible that you have another Top Cashback account, that you accidentally set up with another email address?

This may explain the missing cashback.

Kind regards,
Ceri

Please downgrade
Hi

I have accidentally ended up on plus membership which I do not need. I have now paid the £5. Can you please downgrade me to classic so I do not pay again.

Thank you

REFUSAL TO PAY CASHBACK
I would upgrade to Cashback Plus if it would get me the cashback that QuickQuid have denied me despite me complaining numerous times to Top Cashback and being fobbed off every time. They seem quite happy that QuickQuid have paid most of their customers and won't take any issue with them. Very disappointing treatment.

  Hi there,

I've taken a look at your claims and see that were approved for payment in June. You will need to revisit your claim thread here-

https://www.topcashback.co.uk/account/enquiries/missingcashbackclaims/open

And accept, but you should then see thsi progress to your account.

Many thanks,

Trial
Hi, i've just signed up and it's automatically made me a plus member for a 30 day trial. When the trial ends, will I remain a plus member (with the £5 fee) or will I automatically be downgraded to a classic member? Thanks.
  Member1113053588054 | 25 Nov 13 - 20:44
  Hi there,

Welcome to Top Cashback!

Once your 30 day free trial has ended you will automatically remain on the 'Plus Membership', and it is at this point that you will be asked to pay the £5.00 fee.

If you wish to downgrade to Classic Membership you must do this before the free trial ends.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,
Ceri

I too have been automatically "upgraded" to topocashback plus, which I did not request and did not want. As soon as all my money becomes payable, I will be leaving Topcashback. You are supposed to be able to revert back to the basic service, ut I can see no way of doing this. What a con!

Hi,

I was being automatically signed up for TopCashback plus free trial when it first rolled out, and was given the impression that the plus membership will end after three months, and not being informed or notified at all that an automatic renewal to plus membership would happen once the trial ends!

I would like to go back to the classic membership please. I did not ask for the upgrade to or renewal of plus membership.

Thanks.

Reverting to classic
I am not happy!!! I checked the date my free trial ended and it was the 11 of sept, yet I find that I am still a 'plus' member despite having made hardly anything extra as a result of the free trial! I have just had a Caesarean section and have not been able to checks account until now and a certainly cannot find how to get off this 'plus' service I certainly don't think it benefits me as it will cost me more than it saves me!!! Please remove this immediately and I trust there will be no charge for the 9 days that this has gone on for!

Erm, this might be a stupid question but is the 5% Bonus 5% Of the cashback value, or 5% Of the transaction value you spend on the site?
  mims83 | 30 Aug 13 - 08:25
  Hi mims83,

It's not a stupid question at all :) It's 5% Of the cashback amount that you earn. So if you earn £100 the Plus membership bonus will increase your cashback to £105.

Best wishes,

Jessica

  Hi there Katia_14784,

I've just had a look at your account and can see that the 5% Top-up of your cashback has been added to your transaction. If we are advertising a cashback rate of 2%, Classic members will see 2.02% Cashback ( which includes a 1% Top-up of the cashback) and Plus members will see 2.1% (Which includes 5% Top-up of the cashback amount).

I hope this helps!

Best wishes,

A Plus Plus Plus
I think the service to date has been brilliant, no charges and you even get 1% Extra, what other company gives you money for free and then gives even more. Clearly you have pushed yourself to give as much back as possible without a membership fee and glad to see that you still offer that. I think it's unrealistic for people to ask for further improved services as well without somehow getting the finance to do it. Other sites take £5 and don't give anything extra at all, they keep the bonuses for themselves which is fine that's their decision but I praise TCB for their work. This way gives me the decision and ability to save much more, Rock on TCB, I get it !

The day TCB stopped being exclusivel
A shame you had to go down this route, you would of been better off fixing the things that don't work well with the service rather than getting greedier.
It really was good the way it was but now your trying to create a divide and it's a change that isn't required.
This is not good for TCB, and most people will pay without really doing the sums.
This might lead me to putting less through TCB and a more through other sites. It has certainly made me think now whereas before it was TCB all the way.
A real shame.

  Hi,

We genuinely do feel that our Classic service is the best in the market already & That the Plus account will be even better. We understand that change can be daunting, but we're confident that a lot of people to benefit from this new service.

For those who prefer their accounts to stay the same, our classic account is still free & Has all of the existing features e.G You still earn a 1% Bonus on all transactions which makes our rates the best in the market. Regards, TopCa

'Breakeven'
So assuming you don't value the extra service (not saying I don't!), You have to earn over £100 cash back per year for it it be worth while and absorb the £5 fee.

If you earn anything between £50-100 pa you are better off on the classic as you won't lose the £5 charge.

Seems to make sense to me - looks like a good deal.

We do feel that the other benefits of the Plus membership make it worthwhile even if you don't earn more than £100 cashback. But we leave the choice with you to decide what works best personally.

Interested - but in one place you say up to 5% And in another 5% - Which is it please? I have read through a few of the other comments and no one seems to have asked this question
  Member511142515119 | 06 Jun 13 - 22:25
  Hi,

It's a good question to ask!

At the moment it's 5% Across the board, but the 'up to' was put in as a safety net in case there was a merchant down the line where it just wasn't possible for us to pay the full 5% Out for whatever reason.

I hope that helps explain it.

Regards,

Nice
So basically, the classic account gives me the same 101%, Faster paying retailers and the same customer service that I know and love. The new account is just extra if I want it, 105% Rates, better referral fees and a dedicated support team - who I presume will get questions answered quicker. Nothing to lose then and i'll give it a whirl. I actually thought your previous 'classic' service was brilliant before btw and didn't think it could be improved but 105% Could certainly be of benefit to me. Keep up the good work.

Hi
You do not pay out earned cash back of £50 for joining Santander 123 outstanding for almost a year so what chance of your. 5 % Being paid.
Jim
  jamesb34 | 06 Jun 13 - 12:27
  Hi Jim,

Please be assured that the 5% Top-up is just like the 1% Top-up that we've always offered our members; it immediately gets added to any transactions made. I'm sorry to hear you're still waiting for Santander cashback; a year is an unusually long wait so thank you for your patience. I'll take a closer look into your account now and send you a personal Support Ticket regarding this transaction.

Have a lovely day in the meantime.

Can we down grade?

Thanks for this post! Once you sign-up fully to be a plus account member you'll have to wait for one whole year before you're able to downgrade again. We hope you'll enjoy the plus account so much that this won't be neccessary of course :)

I have upgraded however I have not received 5% Cash back for my latest purchase
  hellsbells45 | 06 Jun 13 - 08:35
  Hi hellsbells45,

Thanks for this post. I've just checked your account and can see that for your most recent cashback transaction you have earned £1.45. 5% Of this is £0.07 which has been applied to transaction, bringing it up to
£1.52 in your account.

I hope this helps!

A bit more clarity!
I have earned approx £70 so far this year (13), and approx £120 last year (12), I like to save my earnings until a reach a significant amount and then cash in for a treat. Say I upgrade? And you take the £5 fee at the end of the 12 mth period, and I still leave my money there to keep accumilating, will you be taking another £5 if my funds run into 2014 and I don't earn anything extra but my money I still there?(Sorry to be a pain)
  Linburn | 06 Jun 13 - 07:48
  hi there,

Thanks for this post! It's a great question that will hopefully help other members :)

The membership fee is based on your earnings for each year individually. So if you earn £50.00 In year 1 we will deduct £5.00 At the end of your year. Then in year 2 if you don't earn anything more but still have cashback in your account from year 1, no fee will be deducted because you have no new earnings for year 2.

Have a good day.

Jessica

Fan Fab BUT....
I will be signing up for this free trial.....At the end of the day its been a fantastic free service that I have been rewarded & Benefited from...Unlike other sites that offer this and that for free but then you have to go though time consuming q&A's only to be asked for your bank details (hence not free at all!).......The £5 fee is peanuts for a year but I hope you never go down the same route as other 'free' sites where you have to pay a fee to upgrade from the classic account to the Plus acc to fully reap the benefits. Just wondered if you will give us reminders to let us know when the 3 month free trail is coming to the end?
All in all its a great site
  CherryBloss0m | 06 Jun 13 - 00:52
  Hi CherryBloss0m,

Thanks for your support :)

I can assure you that the only fee incurred for ever upgrading to the Plus account is the £5.00 taken from your Earnings each year and that is all. I don't think we're going to be sending e-mails out to members to let them know that their trial is almost over however you can check your trial end date on the 'Membership Details' section of your 'My Profile' page.

Have a lovely afternoon.

I am pleased to see you will be 'offering' us the choice of the two types of accounts. Unlike your competitor who moved me over to their premium account without first offering me the choice, thereby deducting £5 from my latest cashback transaction, even though I asked to be returned to their free basic account the day after! They would not relent, so I have brought my business over to you :-)
  Mogul2004 | 06 Jun 13 - 00:14
No Brainer
Ok, so you need to earn £125 in cashback or refer 2 friends to make this worthwhile, but at least TCB is open about this. I renew utilities and insurance and book holidays here so should clear the £125.

I've always found TCB a pleasure to deal with and think it's great to have two choices.

I also want to see if Jessica is still replying at midnight! :)
  moosehoose | 05 Jun 13 - 23:49

Thank you for not automatically putting people on the paid for tier of membership. A certain other cashback site automatically put me on their paid for premium service, without being able to change for a year. I registered here when they did that, and the Clubcard payout is the icing on the cake. I won't be upgrading as I don't think I buy enough to benefit from the ectra 5%, But I will delete my account on the other site soon (as soon as they've paid my cashback from 7 months ago).
  ToneEQ | 05 Jun 13 - 21:41

  rusty2012 | 05 Jun 13 - 20:27
  Hi rusty2012,

We see it more of adding an extra oar to the boat than rocking it. For members who like their Top Cashback the way it's always been the Classic account will ensure that this service continues. Our Plus accounts are for our members who'd like to earn a little extra cashback by top-ups and referral bonuses. There is no obligation either way; we're just aiming to offer our members the best service that we can give.

Have a nice evening.

Tell-a-friend still only £10
Thought i'd try out the trial - went to refer a friend and although other collateral says £12.50, The refer a friend page shows only £10 when logged into the plus account trial.
  Flashware | 05 Jun 13 - 20:13
  hi flashware,

We're aware of this little glitch in the plus accounts (be they trial or fully upgraded), however please be assured it's just a visual kink that needs ironing out! The £12.50 Referral bonus is very much an active and true part of the plus account; this just needs amending properly on our site and we're looking to have it fixed within the next few days.

Best wishes,

Jus Moody
Brilliant idea. I use Top Cashback all the time on basic purchases and would definitely benefit.
  Jus_Moody | 05 Jun 13 - 20:02
  Hi

Great - thanks for that really positive comment. We really do believe this is a great benefit to those savvy members who save the most cashback. (Not forgetting, those who use Tell-a-Friend). We are at pains not to take anything at all away from our Classic service.. But for those really savvy savers, we want to show just what extra benefits we can provide in this way.
  TopCashback
Confused about the charge?
I have read that you won't take the £5.00 charge until we have earned £5.00, how is this deducted? A percentage at a time or all at once?
  AEW1990 | 05 Jun 13 - 19:51
  Hi

That is correct. It will only ever be taken from cashback earned. If you don't earn any cashback, then there won't be any fees. The fee will be deducted when you first 'cashout'. After that, the extra 5% And enhanced Tell-a-Friend rates (£12.50) are all to your benefit. Hope that helps.
  TopCashback
What happens when free trial ends
When the free trial ends, will users who elect to "upgrade" be notified just before the trial ends to remind them that they will be incurring the £5 charge if they continue?

Also, let's say a person earns cashback before the trial ends but don't earn anymore cashback for the next 12 months, will £5 still be deducted from what they've earned once it becomes payable, which may be after the trial ends?

Finally, at which point is the £5 deducted? From the first earnings that reach at least £5 or at the end of the year?
  techbajan | 05 Jun 13 - 19:44
Hi - wow a lot of questions - i'll do my best.
We're going to make it clear on your account how long to go on your Free Trial, so you should always be in control. Any bonuses from the Free Trial period will be ringfenced and not subject to fees or lost if you choose to downgrade later. Upto £5 will be only be taken from cashback earnings - the fee will show up the first time you cashout during that period. Hope that helps.
  TopCashback
£125 per annum
I reckon that to cover the £5 fee by earning a top up of 5% Rather than 1% I would need to earn £125 of cash back each year. I don't earn anything like that, so I cannot see what the benefit would be to me.
  Scotia1949 | 05 Jun 13 - 19:29
  Hi
Don't forget, simply Tell Two Friends and the difference will already be covered (plus an additional £20). If you're not looking to get a new mobile contract or house or car insurance, or a holiday or make many other purchases online this year, then you are no doubt correct. We do find though, that when people remember to use us, they quickly earn at least this amount of cashback. You are very welcome to choose Classic membership and still benefit from market leading rates
  TopCashback
When will it take effect from??
Hi
I have a number of purchases already tracked - many bought in the last few weeks.
If I upgrade now, will these tracked purchases get the plus 5% To up when they are paid, or will they still get the classic 1%??
Many thanks
  sbroad1 | 05 Jun 13 - 19:15
  Hi sbroad1
Any transactions during the time you are on the Plus Service Free Trial or if you have chosen a Plus account will benefit from a 5% Bonus. Any transactions made during other times will get the Classic 1%. I hope that helps to explain.
  TopCashback

Will the 5% Bonus be applied to transactions that have already taken place but have yet to be applied to my account?

As a Plus member, the bonus will be added to all transactions from the date your Plus membership (or your Free Trial membership) begins.

Well worth
In all honesty the money I have saved and even profited from on some occasions makes this worth while anyway. I appreciate its a business and you have to pull in extra money, you offer a great service and I would be happy to pay the £5 on classic account never mind the premium one! ..... Just a word though, I don't like all this talk of extra 5%, Little misleading as it means 5% Of the cashback % And not 5% On top, plus it's only an extra 4% On top of the already 1%. Thanks for reading.
  miller_215 | 05 Jun 13 - 18:33
  Hi
Thanks for your kind comments. We do think that it really is a good benefit for all the most savvy savers on our site. We used to talk about 105% Cashback - but feedback is that this is even more confusing - so we thought we had found a good option to talk about a 5% Bonus on your cashback? You are also right that we are pleased to also offer a 1% Bonus still on our Classic account. We're not taking anything away from Classic members.

top ups
Thanks for the earlier reply Jessica....Just one thing though...I notice the lack of top up info in my account now. Have we lost the 10% Tier and got 5% As a replacement constantly? Obviously that would be a downside not mentioned...Especially with the added charge.
  graham | 05 Jun 13 - 18:18
  Hi

Sorry if this was easily overlooked, it was on the screen where you choose your options. If you are due to be on a tier for June, then that will go ahead as normal. Very few understood or ever benefitted from this option - and we are separately emailing those people who have made use of this in the last year. If you are one of them, then you should be hearing from us.

...So Quidco remove their £5 fee cos they were losing trade, and TCB introduce a service with a £5 fee. Bizarre decision imo
  JDPower | 05 Jun 13 - 18:12

£5 fee
Does this mean it's the first £5 I earn every 12 months that is deducted, or £5 is only deducted if I cross the £5 threshold? Are years defined as calendar years or from the date of joining, or the date of upgrading? Will the 5% Bonus be applied to transactions that have already taken place but have yet to be applied to my account?
  so3003 | 05 Jun 13 - 17:03
  hi so3003

As an existing member, the admin fee will only apply after your free trial and you have chosen to continue with Plus membership. The 12 month period is calculated from the end of your trial. The fee will only be taken from your cashback earnings. If you don't earn cashback nothing will be taken.

Against the TCB ethos
So really you are introducing a two tier system. It really does smack against everything TCB has based it's image on in the past.
There must be a financial reason for introducing it. You are now going to treat paying customers better than non paying ones.
Issues like faster paying merchants should be there for everyone. I am a loyal TCB user but will be keeping close tabs on things in the near future.
  ACF | 05 Jun 13 - 16:53
  Hi acf

Please can I assure you that we do not want this to appear as a two tier system.

The 'Classic' account members are not losing out in anyway - quite the opposite in fact. The service and support will remain exactly the same as it is now and will continue to be absolutely free.

The Plus account provides the same great service as the Classic account except with some added extras on top, including a 5% Top-up bonus across all of your cashback transactions!

Many thanks,
