ACES Centre

A very warm welcome awaits you at ACES, a day care centre specifically organised to support the varied needs of older people. From our beautiful 19th Century property overlooking Abington Park, we aim to help individuals maintain their independence in their older years and, of course, we offer a healthy dose of fun and recreation too. ACES has a home-from-home atmosphere where older people can socialise, be cared for and exchange the gift of friendship in a safe and supportive environment. Our service users can use the many facilities, join in with the range of activities or simply relax and enjoy the company of others. All meals are freshly cooked on site with the menu

Aegis Trust

Launched in 2000,Aegis Trust developed from the work of the UK Holocaust Centre and was conceptualized in the wake of its founders' response to the 1999 Kosovo crisis. Aegis Trust is an international organisation working to prevent genocide. We create spaces in which honour and dignity are restored to the memory of the victims of genocide, where students, professionals, decision-makers and a wider public can meet survivors and learn from their experiences. Through education we work to build long-term peace and counter the prejudice and beliefs that lead to genocide, while finding ways to support survivors to rebuild their lives. We conduct research on places where genocide is a current threat, work to end impunity by holding perpetrators to account, provide evidence-based policy advice to decision-makers who can respond, and undertake advocacy to take the voices of those at risk to politicians, the media and the public. www.aegistrust.org

Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital

The Al-Shifa Trust helps 4 hospitals to provide free eye care to the poor in Pakistan. For as little as £20, a cataract operation can help restore the eyesight of a blind person in a country were medical treatment normally has to be paid for (thus excluding those who most need help). Every one has the right to see the colors of life. It is the mission of Al-Shifa Trust to bring light into dark lives. Every day a child is enabled to see their mother for the first time - bringing joyful tears to all, vision is restored to jobless youths thus enabling them to become earning members of the family, and scores of elderly are helped to live their lives happily and independently.
