| | Can't fault it at all. (with a warning for the non mini dv new gizmos) | Written on 06 August 2008 | I bought this Camcorder a while ago in a sales at Currys. Despite the odd bits and pieces you dont get in the box (even though it says on the Sony site etc etc what is contained in the box and what is not!!), I cannot fault this piece of kit.
One tip for those buying hard drive and memory card camcorders - I know a person at work who had a Sony HDD Camcorder when going to Disney for three weeks. Unfortunately it was dropped and the damage to the HDD was substantial enough to render it useless. This affected them so badly I purchased this machine with its 'old fashioned' mini dv tapes. At least they cant be destroyed so easily (as long as they are kept safe). |  | | Great Value For Money Easy To Use Camcorder | Written on 18 February 2008 | Very simple to use, does most things 'out of the box' with no need for much user input beyond switching it on, pointing & pressing the REC button (its in red for maximum ease of spotting!)
There are the usual options to change things like effects for how pictures look etc but really this is for people who just want to video, with some simple menu options which are quick to learn.
Its light, small & fits nicely into one hand. Its quite well made too.
Couple of points to note: there is no editing software included (use Windows Media Centre or Photo Gallery) nor is there any cable to link your camcorder to your PC.
Both these omissions are unusual & seem a bit cheap of SONY, for which I've deducted 1 star.
You do get a short 'how to shoot videos' DVD which - once you ignore the childish & annoying cartoon 'guide' - is actually quite useful.
(the lack of any bundled cassette is normal industry practise)
Using a firewall cable I've found the video transfer to my PC (running Windows VISTA) painless & fairly quick.
All in all a good buy which I purchased from Debenhams in Birmingham for just £130 a couple of weeks ago.

| | | ENOUGH | Written on 27 January 2008 | Honestly, i got this camcorder for home and personal use. I checked it out, the features, the functions, the performance, all these things found in this cam in specific are very sufficient for amateur recorders. I mean, what else do u want? you take quality videos, with acceptable battery life, cheap tapes, extremely mobile device, and with intervideo software (independant), its perfectly fine to use!
sound is good as well as picture as i said.
I am very satisfied with this purchase, i can say its a bargain.
Would highly recommend.

It's a quality product, brilliantly made. I don't think you'd find one better for the money!
As for everyone moaning about Sony not providing a blank tape in the box with it.... I have never bought a camcorder or camera that has provided tapes or decent memory cards. So any idiot that buys it and doesn't bother to buy tapes, deserves to be disappointed!
